যৌতুক নিরোধ আইন, ২০১৮ এর বিধান মোতাবেক যৌতুক গ্রহণই নয়, যৌতুক প্রদান ও যৌতুক দাবি করাও শাস্তিমূলক অপরাধ। এ আইন অনুযায়ী যৌতুক দাবি করার কিংবা আদান-প্রদানের এক বছরের মধ্যে ফৌজদারি আদালতে মামলা করতে হবে। এই আইন অনুযায়ী দায়ী ব্যক্তিকে সর্বোচ্চ পাঁচ বছর ও সর্বনিম্ন এক বছর মেয়াদের কারাদণ্ড বা জরিমানা কিংবা উভয় শাস্তি দেওয়ার বিধান আছে.
